Celebrating Michael Bossin – winner of the 2010 Sidney B. Linden Award

Ottawa – Michael Bossin, an Ottawa lawyer and professor, has dedicated his three-decade legal career to serving low-income clients, particularly immigrants and refugees. On April 6, 2011 at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, he received Legal Aid Ontario’s Sidney B. Linden Award.

New Integrated Domestic Violence court first of its kind in Canada

This summer, the Ontario Court of Justice will be launching a specialized court to hear criminal and family cases where domestic violence is the underlying issue.

Family Law Service Centres helping thousands of low-income Ontarians in the GTA

Legal Aid Ontario’s Family Law Service Centres have had over three thousand walk-in visitors and almost ten thousand telephone calls since their official opening in September 2010.

LAO board member receives Lincoln Alexander award

Aly N. Alibhai, who sits on Legal Aid Ontario’s Board of Directors, has been honoured by the Law Society of Upper Canada with the Lincoln Alexander Award. The award was presented by Treasurer W.A. Derry Millar at a special ceremony at Osgoode Hall on June 17, 2010.

French toll-free advice lines praised by FLS Commissioner

Ontario’s French Language Services Commissioner recently highlighted Legal Aid Ontario (LAO)-sponsored French toll-free advice lines as a “noteworthy initiative” in his 2009-10 Annual Report.

Clinic law advice lines for francophones

French-speaking clients can now obtain free advice and referrals by telephone for many of the legal issues that are handled by community legal clinics. This service is being provided by toll-free summary legal advice lines, which have been funded as pilot projects by Legal Aid Ontario to increase access to legal services for the Francophone community.
