Spotlight: ARCH Disability Law Centre

One of the most interesting and rewarding projects I’m involved with at Legal Aid Ontario is our series of spotlights on the different specialty law clinics that receive funding from LAO.  Whenever I visit a particular clinic to learn more about it, I’m constantly amazed, inspired and heartened by the dedicated staff members and volunteers and the fantastic work they do.

New brochure addresses access to justice issues

Two percent of Ontario’s population is made up of Aboriginal people, yet they represent 22 per cent of inmates in both federal and provincial correctional institutes in the province.

As part of its Aboriginal Justice Strategy, LAO has produced a unique new brochure to address these and other access to justice issues. “Why is it important to identify yourself as Aboriginal to your lawyer” is aimed in part at addressing the problem of overrepresentation of Aboriginals in the Canadian criminal justice and prison systems.

LSP Focuses on Minimal Disruption to Lawyer Account Payments

Many LAO staff tend to focus on de-cluttering file drawers or what to pack when they think of the upcoming move to the Atrium on Bay.

But what about the day-to-day activities departments handle, and the clients and service providers they assist? How do you address the disruption created by the office relocation if things don’t go as smoothly as anticipated?
