Heather is a proofreader, copyeditor and writer originally from Toronto, Canada but now based in Leeds, West Yorkshire.
After receiving her BA (Hons) in English Literature from the University of Guelph (Guelph, Canada), she studied journalism at George Brown College (Toronto, Canada) and received a certificate in editing which included coursework on grammar, proofreading, copyediting and substantive editing.
For more than 10 years she has provided writing, copyediting and proofreading services both in-house and freelance. Along with working in publishing at one of Canada’s daily newspapers (24 Hours), an online magazine (the now-defunct Business without Borders) and a magazine/catalogue (Vintages), she has also worked in marketing/communications at non-profit agencies (Legal Aid Ontario, Partners for Planning) and a charity (Ronald McDonald House Charities Toronto).
Her freelance proofreading projects include reviewing articles slated for publication, marketing collateral, small business websites and print materials, self-published novels and academic writing.
Heather recently moved to Leeds from Toronto. It was a big move but as a self-professed Anglophile she is enjoying life in Leeds immensely as well as its proximity to London and the rest of Europe. Recent posts from her food and travel blog, Champagne Minimalist, appear on the right-hand side of the page if you’d like to learn more about her adventures.
